Yes, the kidneys are part of a standard abdominal ultrasound. If you are mainly interested in the urinary tract (kidneys and bladder), you can also book a separate urinary tract ultrasound, which costs €90.
Ultrasound shows organs hidden behind intestinal gas less clearly, which is why fasting matters. It does not assess the inside of the stomach or bowel — other examinations are used for that. If a further examination makes sense, the doctor will advise you when explaining the report.
As a rule, take your regular medication as usual with a little water. If you have diabetes or special instructions regarding fasting, consult your doctor about preparation beforehand.
