Ultrasound of the breasts

Breast ultrasound is an important imaging examination that allows for an accurate assessment of breast tissue. It is used to detect changes such as cysts, nodules, tumors, or other abnormalities that cannot be detected through a clinical examination. The examination is particularly useful for women with dense breast tissue, where mammography may not be sufficiently reliable, and for younger women who are not yet included in mammography screenings.

The patient lies on her back with slightly raised arms, and the doctor uses an ultrasound probe to examine both breasts and, if necessary, the axillary lymph nodes. During the procedure, images are displayed in real-time, allowing for quick analysis.

Breast ultrasound is crucial for the early detection of breast cancer, which significantly contributes to improving prognosis and treatment success. Additionally, it allows for the differentiation between benign (non-dangerous) and malignant (dangerous) changes, as well as monitoring known nodules to determine their stability or growth.

In addition to its diagnostic role, breast ultrasound is also used in therapeutic procedures such as biopsies or cyst aspirations. Due to its safety and high accuracy, the examination is often the first choice for women of all age groups, especially for those with a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors.
